Ok place to stay, great place to eat. The rooms were adequate, but the shower had no functioning ventilation or windows that opened. The bathroom door was memorable (you had to wrestle it into submission each time you wanted to close it). How the food was great and the staff were exceptional. Big thanks to the strawberry blond with the beard behind the bar. He was super welcoming and solved problems like a champ!

One of the oldest continuously operating hostilries in Wellington the Sheperds Arms Hotel is primarily a local pub although it does have guest rooms about which I can't comment. My experience of the establishment has mainly been about the food (very good pub food) and the drink; a good array of beers on tap and a well stocked gantry. The service has always been attentive and rapid. The place can get busy on Friday evening after work but in general it isn't too difficult to get a table.
Grilled chicken burger is boss. Guinness is on tap. Service overall is excellent. Basic accommodation in an excellent location. Good for backpackers wanting a private option or postgraduate students wanting something central-ish
Booked very short notice passing through overnight. Huge room, great menu, and doubt even the backpackers could compete on price! Highly recommend.
Got that pub feel with decent food. Staff are great, they make an effort and always make you feel welcome
This place is an amazing find. Circa 1898 looking so nice inside and out. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. They made you feel you could take your time and were at the ready if you needed them. Now the food... OMG the shanks were so nice and just the right amount of food. The meat is just falling off the bone. Veg was nice and crisp, the mash smooth, and the jus was delicious. Also, the pie of the day now that chicken and mushroom was oh so nice and once again a good amount of food. The price point was not too bad for wellington. Even for this palmerston North boy. The place has a nice feel about it and a nice amount of room so you felt you could relax. So the big question would I go back easy YES in fact HELL YES.
